WD1600JB internal drive

Recently I cleared an old WD hard drive of all info; I was going to bin it. Now I want to add it to my son's computer as a slave. But on setting it up - the Device Manager finds it but it does not register on My Computer......when I click on it in Device Manager...it comes up with the message that it is 'Read only'.

How can I change this so that it can read and write and thus be given a Drive Letter within my computer and thus be able to point programmes and folders in its direction, Operating system:Win XP home

All assistance would be appreciated.

You want to go into Disk Management in Windows XP, intialize the drive and format it as NTFS (quick).

Go to start > run > type "devmgmt.msc" to get you into Disk Management.

From there should be self explanatory.

If still an issue I would check drive connection etc.
