Laptop

Just wondering will this http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/Lenovo_IdeaPad_S400_1... be any good for the following:

Web browsing
Youtube sometimes at 1080p
iPlayer / iPlayer HD
Word processing
Checking emails
The odd bit of skype (say once a month for an hour or so)
Bit of iTunes on there
Opening powerpoints & viewing PDFs.
No gaming & no video editing or photo editing etc.

Is that ok or would I have to get them something more powerful? They want something quite portable etc and this fits the bill whilst being cheapish.

depends if you can figure out Windows 8

It has an Intel Pentium Dual Core 997 Processor which you can read about here or here

It's about half an i3 in benchmarks but probably adequate for the things you list, and power efficient too

Yeah we're not bothered about the disk drive.

Adequate as in it's fine or adequate as in it'll about do but I should really get something better?

I have Windows 8 running on a 1.5 GB RAM PC with an Intel P4 3.2 GHz which has a much lower benchmark score and it works fine.

My view is that practically anything you can buy will do the list of things you listed, the hard disk is the slowest thing affecting boot times etc.

to view 1080 vids properly an external screen would be required.

Yep that's fine we have an external display I just wondered if it could handle it in the first place

Ordered it from amazon for 269 with free prime delivery. Arrives tomorrow.
Hope it's alright for what it's needed for.

Gone back. Screen was absolutely dreadful. Never seen anything so bad. All the text was blurred ever so slightly and induced a headache.

Not worth it!!
