Effect of mains cable on disk drives?

I'm thinking of putting my NAS box (Synology two-slot DS210j with 2 x 2TB WD Red disk drives) under the stairs but am wondering if that would be wise considering that's where the electricity mains cable comes in, and where the meter and burglar alarm box live. Any thoughts about the wisdom or otherwise of doing this?

Absolutely no reason not to!

Mains cable coming in is the same electricity as the mains lead it is plugged in to.

My DS213J is temporarily behind the TV with cables for TV, SKY box, modem, router etc all over the place and it works fine.

At the end of the day they are designed for use in the real world - this includes mains interference.

Should be absolutely no problem as far as electrical interference goes but you may need to consider heat. Make sure you have adequate ventilaion around the box.
