Anyone recommend a reasonable budget Laptop. I have just pushed the USB connector into my 1998 Mitac lappy making the one and only USB port useless. I like the look of the Dell offerings but they seem to come with bundled software I dont want. So over to you.

Some good offers on at the moment - have a look around. What I would say though is try and get one with a touch screen if you can. It works nicely with Windows 8.
(Windows 8 haters - my laptop isn't touch screen that being said - I'm just saying that with touch screen it gets even better)

Always have relatively good experiences with HP Probook. When it comes to laptop my advice is always go to PC world and have a play. It could be an i7 with amazing graphics... but if the touchpad and keyboard doesn't suit you, that's not a lot of good!

Just spotted an HP at my local PC shop for 329, like I say looking really budget.

Sounds reasonable... Don't go below Core i3 and 4GB RAM, that is asking for trouble.

Does it have a pcmia slot? If yes, just get a pcmia usb card and hey presto you now have 2 usb ports.

What bundled software?
You can request Dell to leave off any software - and sometimes it is cheaper!
My last one arrived with just Windows plus IE various Drivers and support applications with some small Dell management utilities and that was it.

Pick up the phone and call them!
Quite often they will negotiate on price too ...

Got a wireless and usb pcmia cards today. Havent tested the usb card yet but the wireless belkin card works a treat, some more life in the old lappy. Thanks for the idea Petsy.
Edit: Test the USB card with the wireless together, USB card didnt need any drivers and works like a charm on Tiny XP.
