Recommended Laptop?

Looking for a laptop with i5 processor, 500-1TB hard drive, dvdrw, 8gb memory and windows 8.1 pro x64 and around 4-5 hours battery life with no bloatware.

Dell would have been ideal but it has Office trial and Mcafee pre-installed and Dell tell me there is no way to remove this. Novatech have a no bloatware promise but are £184 dearer for the privelidge.

Don't believe the "no way to remove it" ... they will and if you call towards the end of teh month you will find them VERY cooperative and willing to trim prices too.

Don't you just go into Control Panel and uninstall them?

Not with McAfee ... you need te full McAfee uninstall tool. Fairly easy to run but just takes time.

If you have a few hours to spare.......

What does it not say?


To quote from McAfee:

Use the McAfee Consumer Product Removal tool (MCPR) to remove data completely for a McAfee Security product installation on a supported Windows operating system.

Without running it there are remnants remaining which include applications that will generate a pop-up occasionally that will tell you that McAfee is not installed.

It says

1. Uninstall your McAfee home user products using Add/Remove Programs in the Windows Control Panel

I think Microsoft will not certify an app as being suitable for Windows unless you can uninstall it from the Control Panel.

That may take them away from the Add/Remove list, remove the Icon and from the start menu. However there will still be some parts lurking in the background.

Having had a problem with McAfee about 12 months back where it would lock out a user completely. It was removed using control panel, but it did not resolve it. It required the McAfee tool to completely remove it.
