I don't think you can apply the same metrics to a PC as to a mainframe. The former is used primarily for single-user interactive work and so it is instantaneous performance that is important. That would seem to indicate that an upgrade to SATA 3 would be worth it. However, tests have been done and show that this is not necessarily true. Prsonally, I wouldn't expect any significant increase in performance just (very) marginal reductions in program load times. As to the particular combination of hardware, you'd have to try it and see. On the other hand, £20 isn't a fortune.

Rum. It's just not Black Barrel

I've never acquired a taste for whisky, and I don't see much point in doing so since it can be an expensive hobby. I do like brandy but, given a choice between drinking cheap rum and cheap brandy, I'd go for the rum any time. My favourite is Appleton Estate V/X - lovely flavour and as dry as a bone (no added sugar).

I know what you mean, that's why I'm talking about Mount Gay rums.. and obviously being keenly interested in replacement SSDs right now.

I did try some Mount Gay and it was awful - I poured it down the sink.

Did it clean the drains adequately?

I imagine it kept the sewer rats happy for a while.
