Hard Drive Check Tool Recommendation

[link to this post]

I've got a Toshiba drive that is making deep pulsing sounds. It might always have done this as it's been in an NVR which I have moved out in to my server. This could be normal I suppose, but it's louder and more noticeable than my other WD drives. I cannot find any hard drive checking tools on the Toshiba site, does anyone have any programs they can recommend that can check the drive fully.

CHKDSK doesn't show any bad sectors.

Perhaps the link here might help.

p.s. personally I have an application "HardDiskSentinel" running 24/7 which monitors all SMART info from my drives.

Speccy by Piriform - https://www.ccleaner.com/speccy

Should have HDD S.M.A.R.T. info via the storage option in the list. Failing that, there's always:

chkdsk [drive letter]: /r

Wait a while for results.

I was going to recommend Speccy too. It will certainly give a basic view of te drive.

If you want detailed info and possible "repair" options, I've always used and recommend HDSentinel.

Worth keeping an eye on Bits du Jour where I got mine from as a freebie.

Thanks for the links guys.

For reference I put the drive back in to the CCTV DVR as it was doing my head in and surprisingly it's quiet in there. Maybe it was the mounting system in my Lenovo TS150 that it didn't like as they are a sort of plastic cradle that can be pulled out. It must have wanted to be screwed in instead.

I tried a couple of the recommendations above and it was showing the drive was in decent nick.
