B535 problems

[link to this post]

I am using Huawei B535-232 as an access point and not using the modem. This has resulted in finding many issues that I will share. The biggest problem is that Huawei simply refuse to offer any support. Consumer support tell me they do not cover modem-routers so I must contact enterprise support, but enterprise support demand I have a service agreement before they will even consider the issues. Has anyone any sensible contacts in Huawei to respond?
The issues we have found with the B535-232
1. A severe limitation in the devices it will map. In this I mean the devices that are connected to the LAN port, and not connected as wifi. If you daisy chain a switch or further access points, the MAC addresses from these downstream devices must be stored in the MAC table of the B535-232. However the B535-232 stops functioning when it reaches 68 devices. I have therefore had to ensure there is a switch before the B535-232 to do the MAC table.
2. B535-232 with firmware V11.0.1.1 implements a DNS V6 server. It advertises the address over the network. PCs ignore this server and will work with the advertised DNS V4 server given by DHCP. However smart phones pick up the address of this DNS V6 server and attempt to use it. As it will respond more quickly than DNS V4, the address given is used in preference. However, when the B535-232 is used in access point mode (LAN only) the DNS is not configured, and so the DNS V6 server gives a dummy address (172.x.x.x), which doesn't work. There is not an issue with 10.01.1. Does anyone have firmware for 10.0.1.1.
3. The subnet mask cannot be changed. Normally not an issue, but if placed in a large network or for other reasons the subnet mask needs to be changed, then this is a problem. I use 255.255.255.254, and as long as my client is in the same "subnet" I can still access the B535-232.
4. Huawei do not post firmware. This prevents upgrade as well as downgrade to resolve issues.

OK I'll be the one who says it.

Just buy a new WiFi AP and chuck the Huawei garbage in the bin. It's not worth the time and effort. I have found that most integrated modem/router/APs will do undesirable things when attempting to operate them in AP-only mode, such as, like you say, inability to completely turn off DHCP off etc.

I agree that domestic equipment should not be used in a commercial environment, however I inherited this stuff and decided to repurpose for the short time before we move to a new site, so it was a case of coaxing this stuff along until that time, when I will do things properly.

However I felt I should share the specific problems I have encountered in case this helps others facing the same issues.
