Logitech MX keys mini

Just got myself one to replace my old Corsair mechanical keyboard, not sure if it was a good idea, quieter, but it is certainly different to use. I got it as it can be switched between 3 different devices, so when I get my Mac I can connect it to that as well.
It was on offer, which is why I got it now.
I did not realise until last night that there is a mechanical version of this, maybe I should have got that one.
Realised after I bought it that it needed a dongle, the so call logi bolt, £11 from Logitech, £32 on Amazon.

The keyboard is so small, not sure about the LED reacting to my hands when they are closed to the keyboard

You'll find life a bit confusing on a Mac if you use a PC keyboard.

Going the other way around, Apple keyboard into PC, isn’t as bad.

It also has Mac stuff on like CMD and Opt, Opt is on the same keys as the Windows keys and command is on the ALT key, that is why I got it.
I am getting used to it now, not so sure about the cursor keys. Also the function keys also double up with stuff like volume and brightness of LED and the sort of thing, also being cordless I must remember to put it on charge, they say turning the Leds off will save power, but It is impossible to see the letters, so I have it on dim,

I will get used to it, but it is quieter than my old one and because I have to look where I am typing I am making fewer mistakes LOL
It is heavy for the size, I presume it is the battery that makes it heavy. Need software for it to work, will drivers for the Logi bolt and then software to remap the top row if I want to.

Easy enough to change between computers with this, it has three quick switch keys at the top, F1, 2 and 3, It uses Bluetooth, so should be fine for the Mac mini and could also use it on a tablet if I had one, I may try it with my phone, just for fun

Yes. Windows allows you to change the mapping of the keys to completely correspond to the keyboard. Although you can change the modifier keys in OS X I'm not aware of a way to change the whole keyboard mapping. (I might well be wrong but, if so, it's not obvious.)

It's not just the modifier keys that differ between Windows and OS X. You can certainly use a standard keyboard with a Mac, but it is so much more pleasant to use a proper Apple keyboard. And they're pretty good keyboards. (Used to be awful, but modern Apple keyboards are great.)

I've spent years typing on a UK Apple keyboard, into remote Windows machines, setup for US PC keyboards.

I'm often coding like this, typing lots of punctuation characters. If you asked me which keys map to which I'd have no idea, but somewhere in my brain there is a mapping table that works without conscious thought.

It even works when I'm flicking between the Mac and the remote PC, after a while your brain just deals with it.

This was made for Mac and Windows, so it has different legends on different keys, If you go to the link below, which is currys, you can zoom into the keyboard

There is not a lot of difference to a Mac keyboard to be honest from what I remembered, and then I looked at a photo of a MAc keyboard. There is a Mac only version of this.,

I don't know how that will work out on windows, I have an old bit of software called print key 2000, I will have to change the shortcut, no page up or down either, but I never used them anyway

Mac keyboard shortcuts

Download and install Microsoft PowerToys (you'll need admin permissions).
Once installed, on the left-hand side navigate to "Keyboard Manager". Under "Shortcuts" click "Remap a shortcut". It'll open a new window that will allow you to remap shortcuts...

On the first column, click the "Type" box and you'll be prompted to enter a key combo. On your keyboard, press "Win key" + "shift" + "s". On the second column (Map to), scroll and look for "Print Screen". You can leave the third column blank.

Now Win + Shift + S will be mapped to print screen, so if you use Greenshot like I do, you won't have to change anything further.

Should map Fn + Camera key to Print Screen, hopefully...

Of course Mac laptops have a lot less keys than Linux/Windows laptops, but Mac desktops you can choose the full size Apple keyboard which is very very close to the PC 102key layout.

Main gotcha for Brits is the Apple location for " and @ are transposed to PC.

Also the | and ~ keys are in a different position, which can be a pain if programming or using terminal commands. But, as zyborg says, that keyboard has markings for PC and Mac. A little cluttered, but I guess it’s all there.

I still prefer an Apple keyboard with a Mac. It just works.

Oh yeah, I can do as I don't use the camera key as I don't have a camera on here, while I do, but it is not permanently plugged in

I have to sort out the cables later, my old keyboard is still plugged in, but on the floor beside me, it has the mouse dongle in the back, also got to move the Logi bolt to the back of the computer.
I am slowly getting used to this keyboard, the keys seem to be closer together than my old one. I wrote a letter last night with it, so not too bad.

This is why I got it as I wanted one keyboard for both machines and it was at a good price, so may as well get it now.
it is nice to have more space on the desk for my mouse, and now I can put the Contour shuttle down by me as well, now all I need to do is get something, so I can put my graphics tablet on.
