Viewsonic Monitor

[link to this post]

Had a power cut today and my Viewsonic monitor was dead, no amount of pressing the power button would bring it to life when the power came on. Booted the PC it is attached too and went and had me tea. Came back to change the power lead and it's working fine. Anyone seen anything like it?

Long turn-on times can happen if a capacitor goes bad. If you turn it off for a while now does it come on quickly or do you get the same delay?

With the power button is instant will have to try with the power lead next time I am down there.

Just tried it. Disconnected the power lead for 2 mins and it came back on instant. Weird.

Power lead/plug includes a fuse. Sounds like the fuse went.

Just one of those thins then. These devices are complicated nowadays, not a simple on/off switch, so something got temporarily disturbed.

The amber power light took a few seconds to go off when I unplugged the lead and my power cut was 12 hours, monitor never been off that long before.

Does the monitor use a switching power supply (internal or wall-plug variety)?

I had something similar sounding to this a bit back with an LED light bulb- the oscillator in the PSU wouldn't start properly unless it was warm.

Could be a capacitor as TM suggested, or a transistor gently dying. Failed completely a couple of weeks later, so be prepared!

Some things are too complex for their own good, only have to look at the problems people have been having with Sky Glass.

I did not even know Viewsonic was still going.

Phillips that is not Philips any more, they stopped producing TV and monitors a few years agao.
Dell monitors or at least the higher end ones are very good, I don't know who makes them, but I know someone who had a Dell monitor and the quality was amazing. They updated to a BenQ for some reason.

I have an Acer myself 32inch monitor, it is very good, but then it should be for the price smile I was going to get second one as I have a Hanns-G as a second monitor and while it is ok, it is nothing like the Acer and it is smaller. But the monitor I have got is not produced any more.

I gave up on sky nearly 20 years ago., after 12 months of using it smile

Not a fan on curved monitors, I suppose it depends on what you are using it for,
Omni is amazon from what I gather, produced for them by Foxconn.

I thought it was just a sub-type of Viewsonic monitors- link

(May need to scroll down a bit to see the range)

Can't see what attributes they have to deserve the name crazy

Very strange, you do a search and Omni comes up as Amazon, and a million of other things.

If the monitor is Viewsonic then it will have Vewsonic on the front bezel

Dell make their own monitors. They use panels from a variety of sources and you may get two "identical" monitors with te same part number but they have different panels.

Sorry I am cracking up, Bob said his Viewsonic monitors was made by Omni, I meant it would say Viewsonic on Bob's monitor,

My computers are making lose my mind at the moment.

I have seen the name Omni on a few things, but from my searches it is a Amazon thing. Very strange

The panel is one of the more important things in a monitor, if they are produced by different companies there are bound to be differences

Looking at that link that was posted, this is the one I have: https://www.viewsonic.com/global/products/lcd/VX3218... but deffo has OMNI on the Bezel, if memory serves me right I think I did get them from Amazon, so maybe Viewsonic make them for Amazon under that name.

That is very strange, Omni is a name Amazon uses for their own brand fire TV, looking on their site for monitors, there is no Omni in the list. do your monitor have Viewsonic on the back?

I hate this where companies uses the same names as others.

My first CRT monitor for my PC was a Belinea, it was a great little monitor, then I went for an Acer 4:3 LCD, which was okay, I gave it to my mate to use in his studio, it is still in there, not sure what will happen to it now.

Then I went to Hanns-g for two of my monitors, the last one is still being used as a second monitor.
the last monitor I got was an Acer BM350, flipping expensive. I was going to get a second one, but they are not produced any more, found one on Ebay, but the price is only slightly less than what I paid for mine new. Acer don't sell any 32 inch at a decent price now, I mean in the £300 mark, they are all over £500.
I will have to look elsewhere when/if I decide to bother.

2nd hand Dell has arrived and its almost perfect for a used monitor. Sent a 20" wide instead of a 19" square which I am happy with. smile

Okay double checked and I bought them from box.co.uk, it does indeed have ViewSonic on the back similar to this: https://box.co.uk/vx3218-pc-mhdj-viewsonic-vx-32-in-... except mine is the MHD not MHDJ version, the J wasn't available which has height adjustment
