Noisy fans on routers and switches? Go the Noctua way!

A couple of weeks ago I did a chassis fan 'transplant' on a MikroTik CCR router, swapping the fairly noisy factory fans for 40mm Noctuas in the 'hot swap' cage.

I'd seen how chap had done this and posted up on the STH forums, but I didn't really like how he'd used crimp connectors and thought it should be possible to (carefully) take apart the IDC connectors and remove the old ribbon cable, then place the Noctua fans in, relay the separate wires back into the IDC, just to make the job a bit more seamless.
