Yeah for sure when you’re working on one of these types of board (for the first time!), you’re petrified of damaging the connectors; some are so small and fragile, that you can almost scupper the whole job by gripping / bending something slightly wrong way or the like. The way (some) manufacturers have approached the design of some of these things, is really assembled for one-time use and certainly not like a computer motherboard to be interchanged or swapped.

Personal computers, are becoming (well in some cases already become) almost “sealed for life” and non repair / replaceable devices nowadays. A long way from what I remember the industry to be back in the nineties when I began most of my tinkering and building with them.

My Mac is more or less sealed, I can remove the base, but that is about it, even replacing the battery is a pain. But that suits me as long as it keeps working for a few years.

There was a time when i would not buy a computer like that, always wanted to update the hardware and fiddle with it, but now, not interested.

I used to fiddle with other peoples computers, get them working and updated them, but lost interest now. A mate who passed a few years ago had older machines he used in his recording studio, a p4 for editing music for a start, I used to keep his machines going. But since he has gone, I have lost interest.
I am not saying i would not help anyone, but only if i have to.

I have been having problems with small connectors since I had chemo 9 years or so ago, it damaged the nerves in my fingers, so not much feeling in them and constant tingling.
But as you said the way things are going it will be difficult to fix things anyway.
