Hey there,

Thank you for your query. We can provide you with a static IP address and this service comes at a £5/mo additional fee to your current subscription. It's an add-on, so it can be enabled/disabled per request, and it won't influence your minimum period.

We hope this helps. smile

Per month? it should be a one time payment like other providers no?

It should be whatever Hyperoptic decide it should be. Customers can decide whether or not to pay it.

Dumb take.

This market should be competitive but hyperoptic are taking advantage because most places they build dont have any other ultra fast provider so what do you choose? a slow connection with 1 time charge for static ip or ultra fast with overpriced static IP at a monthly rate.

So Hyperoptic may be leasing IP addresses. They don't pay a one-off charge on those so it makes no sense to charge a one-off charge.

Either way they're charging what the market will bear. What they should charge is entirely subjective. What they may charge is down to them and their market.

If they are leasing that explains why an ongoing charge rather than a one-off.

Might be a 'dumb take' but regardless what you think they should be charging isn't what they've been charging for over a year and they are evidently comfortable with that pricing structure.

They could be charging way more for gigabit given the price their main competition, BT, charge, but don't.

Hi there! Apart from the static IP address that you may need for certain tasks, we'd like to remind you that we have rolled out Ipv6 in almost all areas that we cover. This should reduce the necessity for static IPs, but in case the server you are accessing is not Ipv6 compatible, we have a solution for you, and you can add or remove the static IP from your account anytime. The maintenance charge of £5.00 is not included in all price packages, as the case may be with some other providers, as this service is optional and you'll still be getting great service at an equally good price.

Even if Hyperoptic pay a leasing charge for their static IPs, it can be nowhere near £5 a month. As a point of comparison, I rent a UK VPS from IONOS with a static IPv4 for £2.50 a month. It's remarkably good value and I can't see how they make a profit from it but it provides all the featues of a VPS plus a static IP address for half what Hyperoptic charge for the IP alone.
