Total wireless with ZTE H3600 and H3601 mini hub speads

[link to this post]

Hi.

I recently got the Hyperoptic Total Wireless package as it was on a special deal. I got a new Hyperhub ZTE router H3600 and a H3601 mini hub. I used the H3600 instead of my Unifi router as it gave me IPV6 and Wireless 6 connectivity. I didn't use the H3601 as I had everything hard wired to the router.

I recently did some furniture moving and decided to use the H3601 as a switch to extend the wired ports with a long ethernet cable. This seems to work well plugging in the port into the WAN port on the H3601, plugging the other end into the LAN1 port on the router.

It also works in mesh mode if I remove the cable connecting the router from the mini hub which is how I think the system should be running as per the instructions. The question is if I run it wirelessly what speads can I expect to achieve between wired clients on the hub going to the router? Is the mini hub connecting to the router at Wireless 6 speads? In most cases the clients I will be connecting to locally are both wired into the mini hub, so losing the cable will make things much tidier, but wondering if anyone has real world spead data on this?

Thanks.
Andrew.

Hi there.

Seems like you got the mesh system figured out quite well. Here are a few guidelines.

First of all, it can work both as wired to the main router or wirelessly. Basically however you prefer and decide.

If you keep it connected with the cable, then you'd get a more stable and fast connection to the mini-hub.
This depends on how you connect your devices to the mesh now.
- If with a cable, then you found the optimal choice when it comes to mesh (in case you can't connect to the main router).
- If you go for wifi, then it depends on which frequency your devices would catch, as 2.4 has a wider range, but slower (around 50-70 Mbps) and 5 goes up anywhere between 200 and 700 (but a shorter range at 5-7 metres).

Now, if you lose the cable between the mesh and ZTE H3600, then it will depend on which of the two frequencies the H3601 catches and replicates. This also depends on the location and the distance from the router.
Also, it's best to keep it as far as possible from other electrical devices that emit waves, possibly with not many solid objects (such as walls) in between as this weakens the signal, therefore speed.
