webspace and quota questions

[link to this post]

Hi Idnetters, just a few questions that I wouldn't mind knowing the answer to please.....

1> Any chance of any free webspace in the near future or will I have to go with some sort of web hosting?

2> Does the 30gig allowance reset when a new month begins or is any unused allowance "banked"?

3> What is the speed like at IDNet, I'm currently achieving speeds of about 6.5mbps and not far from my exchange so should I expect to achieve this kind of speed? (8128 kbps connection speed, line attenuation 24db, noise margin 12db on downstream)

4> Is there anyway of monitoring your usage on the IDNet website or a seperate account page..... or do I have to rely on using DU Meter? Also is there an e-mail warning system in place if you go over a certain amount to let you know your 30gig is practically up?

Best regards,

Not as far as I know, you'd be better going for web hosting. IDNet can do this if you want, but it's not aimed at domestic users...

2> Does the 30gig allowance reset when a new month begins or is any unused allowance "banked"?

It resets.

3> What is the speed like at IDNet, I'm currently achieving speeds of about 6.5mbps and not far from my exchange so should I expect to achieve this kind of speed? (8128 kbps connection speed, line attenuation 24db, noise margin 12db on downstream)

In my experience it seems to be limited by exchange contention, so your speed should stay the same or improve... no guarantees though.

First question- yes, but to be honest its accuracy is debatable. Though if it gets it wrong, it always reads low
Second part- yes, but not email. Simon rings you up to see if there's a problem

In addition a small update on Bill's answer to 4)

The usage page is now augmented with daily usage figures and email notifications are coming down the development pipeline as you read [from Simon @ IDNet] No timescales but they will be making an appearance.
