Useage Data page

[link to this post]

Hello.

It appears the useage page in the customer account section has been altered.

Now instead of monthly useage to date and estimation of 30 day use based on that, it has altered to only show useage for the past 5 days.

While each of these days useage is now shown and is a positive step, there now doesn't appear to be a way of seeing your monthly useage in total.

For a fixed cap product this is a very bad step. I now have no clue what my useage this month is (only the last 5 days) and the estimation gauge is useless because it only gives a guess based on the 5 day period.

Personally I find this unacceptable as I wish to be sure that I don't go above my 30gb limit and start unintentionally having to pay for extra gbs (since the service i believe is more an allowance than 'cap' meaning you aren't stopped when you reach your 30gb). Any other solution such as totally relying on my own unofficial metering or having to call CS to find out just makes things uneededly complicated and not something I wish to do in the long term.

Up to this point I was quite satisfied with my choice of IDnet, especially since this is my first service with a fixed 'allowance'. This change has left me feeling uneasy and would like to find out if IDnet intend to put back the monthly totals rather than have to yet again migrate to an alternate supplier.

Any views or information would be welcome.

It really is best to find out the facts before shooting your mouth off....

The method IDNet use to get their data from the BT Radius servers has changed- it used to be only whenever you disconnected, but now the usage figures are updated hourly.

Unfortunately, this meant that the figures prior to 12th are not available on this basis- IDNet can't show what they haven't got! I think you'll get whatever you used in that period for free, but someone from IDNet would need to confirm that.

As they ony have 5 days worth of hourly data that's all they can show- in future you will be able to see your daily usage on a full basis.

"shooting my mouth off"? What on earth are you on about?

No call for being rude. I was asking a question and was being polite.

For your information I have spoken to IDnet before posting here and spoke to a nice lady who couldn't answer these questions there and then but is going to get someone to call me back about this. I thought I would ask here in case anyone had been given official info that covered all bases.

The stuff about how they gather their info I was aware of, but I was was unaware they were going to change this right now, (there isn't anything about this at present on the web site nor have I recieved any further other type of communication saying this was going to happen) so excuse my suprise and intial enquiries on a board such as this.

I am not expecting too much from them just to clarify what their intentions are. I don't expect to be insulted for asking a reasonable question in a polite way by someone who has to admit to guessing at a fundamental part of my original query with regards to monthly useage for this month so far

If you have to be insulting don't bother responding.

Had you said in your opening post that you had previously been in touch with IDNet then my response would doubtless have been different.

But without that useful piece of information it comes across as a petulant reaction from someone who has seen something change and is not bothered about finding out why before threatening to migrate....

If you consider this reply to be insulting, then just assume I didn't respond and we'll leave it there.

mmmmmm........I don't know.

Maybe if I hadn't mentioned that my genuine concern about the apparent disappearance of a monthly total without an announcement beforehand made me strongly think about leaving maybe I would have got a friendlier response.

Maybe if you had ommitted your first sentence you wouldn't have come across as an arrogant insulting fan-boy instead of the helpful, if guesswork, ideas you had regarding this move that made up the entire last part of your post.

Anyway Simon did call me back and more or less confirmed everything you said.

1 - the information was to continue onward so that everyone could see daily useage and the months will build up on this enhanced information - a postive step.

2 -[EDIT - Please confirm with IDnet yourselves about the pre-12th October useage - I was under the impression that Idnet were going to cover this issue in their forum note. Since they haven't as yet maybe IDnet don't wish this posted openly at this time. I want to respect this and don't wish to complicate things for them so have decided to edit my earlier post]

I did mention to Simon that my concerns would never have even started if the website or even this forum had a mention that this was happening before the change. He did say that the website was to be updated in the very near future so others wouldn't have the concerns that I did.

So there we are. Once again if I had just put off signing in until tomorrow none of this would have occured and I would still be a very happy camper. Nothing never goes that easy and perhaps if I hadn't been subjected to the masters of the behind the scenes movers known as Eclipse then perhaps I wouldn't be as senstive to unannounced changes.

However I suppose by this stage we all have our previous scars - some around here were preiously with plusnet or tiscali - those wounds must still ache.

Anyhow, a storm in a tea-cup. I'm willing to kiss and make up with Bilford if he is ......No tongues...Promise to keep the friendly nature of this board intact.

I won't edit or delete my other posts, because I hate it when others do that so people can see the mis-understanding and judge for themselves. We can all learn and grow.......uuurgh!

Anyway Idnet still gets a thumbs up from me.

Fine by me (well, maybe not the kiss )...

As far as I'm concerned it's forgotten.
