Advise needed about a possible move to idnet

[link to this post]

Hi all,
Ive been thinking about changing my isp for some time (im currently with virgin) but really like the look of IDNet but i have a few questions and it would be great if anyone could help.

Im a heavy gamer and am looking for a stable and fast service, i have the max adsl at the moment which doesnt seem to be hitting anywhere near what it should be (been advised by CS to run the bt speedtester but it never works dont know why they dont like the tester here) sorry got lost and started rambling hehehe. How is IDNet for gamers?

It seems the at peak times my connection get irratic which im guessing is the contention so im wondering if i will still have this problem if i move to idnet?

Thats so much for reading this far i just have one more question, will 30gb be enough i ask because i play so much online gamming plus i use voice comms and that on top of normal browsing, emails and down loading a few songs ever now and again plus some game demos lol

Anyways i look forward to hearing from anyone and hope you all well.

steve

p.s sorry for a rambling post but i thought the best people to ask are you guys

Hi,

I play CS:S via my IDNet connection and the pings are usually very stable. 30ms ish.
Now and again (once per fortnight) they go up to about 150ms, but a router reboot fixes this.

As for the usage.
30Gb should be plenty for you.
As long as you are not running full speed torrents constanly then you should not get anywhere near the Cap.

FYI, my current usage is estimated at 15Gb for the month, that with the odd game downloaded from Steam and the odd movie or two.

Hope that helps

Steve i play on-line most nights and can vouch for IDNets pings being low, they have had a few problems recently but all has been well for a while now.

Have a look at the forums from my sig for more info.

Ping statistics for www.idnet.net :

Packets: Sent = 30, Received = 30, Lost = 0 (0%) loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 29ms, Maximum = 37ms, Average = 32ms

I have to say that if the rest of the service is as good as how i was treated then im really looking forward to having these guys as my isp.

Im now awaiting my mac from vigin and until then im gonna have to suffer irratic service ive been getting (200-350pings at times).

Once again cheers for the replys

Customer service is excellent. I moved from Pipex a few months ago - best move I ever made. Now a happy Idnetter. Welcome aboard Stevie0573. Now I'm not the only Stevie on the forum :-)
