Which mtu/mru?

[link to this post]

When I first set up with idnet my router was set to 1400/1450 (or something like that), but I have just tried setting both to 1500 (which wouldn't work previously) and I now find that speeds are the same, ie v.good, but web pages seem to download better or crisper. Any reason for this?

PS. this ones for you alf, PING

Funny you should ask that ....... for want of something better to do in the week (should get a life!!), I was playing around with altering my MTU. I use a BT Voyager 105 USB modem BTW not a router on Max Lite.

I started with 1500 and went down. As I dropped I noticed that my Upload speed increased. It was averaging 372kbps at 1500 I think, I stopped at 1430 when my speed reached 380kbps, as I don't think it will increase further. I left the RWin as it was. May try again sometime.

Only posted this as I thought it may interest someone.

I have read the theories BTW, but I like to 'play'!

Edit to say D/Load speed didn't seem to alter.

I've also found that playing with the mtu can have a benificial effect on troublesome web site that refuse to load.
