No connection in the evenings

[link to this post]

Hi,

I wonder if anyone else is having this problem. For the last 3 nights, including this evening, I am unable to connect to the internet through IDNet but in the mornings I have no problem at all.

In the evenings my router's diagnostic routine reports that it can't make a connection with IDNet but it is able to connect successfully to my local ADSL exchange. However even when the broadband connection is down I can still get on the net with a dial-up modem, so the phone line does not seem to be the problem.

I am left wondering if IDNet has taken on too many subscribers and maybe there is not enough bandwidth available in the evenings for everyone who wants access. I can't ring them until Friday due to being out all day at work when their tech support is available so I would be grateful for any ideas on dealing with this problem before then.

Thanks,
Alan

It could be exchange contention, try and check it out at http://www.samknows.com/broadband/

Contention would not, necessarily, have much of an impact on dial-up because after the exchange the BB connection is routed through a differnt setup.

IDNet have a very resiliant setup and have allowed for the amount of new sign ups. They wouldn't accept them if they couldn't supply the connection.

same here for last 2 nights.....

Same has happened to me for the last 2 evenings - just re-connected 2 mins ago.

I can also connect to the exchange using bt_test@startup_domain and browse to the test site but when I try to connect to IDnet I get the following......

Connecting to Server Failed
Negotiation LCP is allowed to come up.
Authentication CHAP authentication failed
Getting IP Addresses ---
Getting Network Mask ---

About the same time as well - very strange!!! esp. after 6 months with no issues

My posts are my opinions unless stated otherwise.

So what you are saying is the router syncs ok but is unable to log into your idnet account?

If that's the case you will need to speak with CS.

Just had this myself tonight, off the air for about 40 mins. Strange as I've not had this one before with Idnet.

My connection over a 7km line usually manages to stay connected for 8 - 12 hours which is better than I ever had before going on ADSL max with IDNET but tonight I have noticed that it is dropping the connection every few minutes.

No problems here... unless the router has picked up again too quickly to notice, but I'm pretty sure not.

Nah! mine was down continuously so I'm sure you would have noticed if you had a problem as well.

See what happens tomorrow night.
