We believe that we have at last found the cause of the authentication problems that have been affecting some customers for several days now.
After close co-operation from BT (and thanks go to them for their help with this) we have found that it is not a problem with either their RADIUS systems or ours. It is a problem with one of our LNS servers

Simon
Thanks for posting the good news.
I hope BT didn't ask whether you had tried switching it off and on again!

Thanks for the update Simon.
It is great to see that IDnet does investigate and fix issues that affect even a small number of their customer base.
Im pretty sure previous ISP's I have been with would have fobbed me off with any old fairy story to save the effort of the work.
Another example of the quality of service you provide.
Well done!

I have just read this.... an email to all customers would have been sensible! Many customers wouldnt even have read this notice on here!

>>>an email to all customers would have been sensible! Many customers wouldnt even have read this notice on here!<<<
It looks to me like it was a on the spot decision to do the work today, how many people here would have seen a email sent to them today before 6 p.m.?

Well I just noticed this announcement half way through downloading a 600mb file from work, so an email would have been good enough to warn me, it was obviously planned in advance.. fingers crossed i stay online!

Well the maintenance was harmless for me, was playing on Live!, got accused of bad sportsmanship by bunking out of a game because I wasn't first...lol. Ah well!
Anyone know of a character I can use to pad a space in my signature, to replace the 0 in 0832...
IDNet - Home SuperMax
DS Rate - 8128 Kbps Margin - 13dB Attenuation - 26dB
US Rate - 0832 Kbps Margin - 15dB Attenuation - 11dB

That's a bit of a worry as I had my connection drop around 6.20pm, for the second today (first in 22 days) as the first one was identified as Idnet this morning, I had assumed the second was too, as it was within their maintainance window.

It seems a few of us lost our connection between 18:13 and 18:22 tonight so you're not on your own. Not sure why though if the maintenance was cancelled?

Only a guess, but maybe it was started, but had to be abandoned?

Hi cjtc
Simon did use the word postponed. Which I took to mean, had not started, but you could be right, I hope you are, as it will save the need to start investigating another cause.

Better the message was posted on here PRIOR to the event than notified to you via email sat on a server you can't get to because your connection's down and you don't know why !

Same here, strange as nothing was done. I also had a drop yesterday morning for about an hour but can't remember what time - I rebooted my router today.
My posts are my opinions unless stated otherwise.

I don't really think there's a problem with not mailing every customer to tell them maintenance is going on. Firstly, who would be in to read it before the maintenance was carried out? Of those people, who actually reads messages from their ISP? Of those people, who would even understand the techno jargon in the mail!!? The answer to the last question is people who frequent this place would understand the jargon, hence the post here.
The main thing is that somethings being done about it and provided the work only takes a couple of hours no one should really notice. Anyway, I was connected on Sat and my line is still training but I haven't been cut off once!
Thanks for the heads up SImon, keep us posted.
