I've just lost my connection to IDNet. Sync to the exchange was not affected). It was back up after about 15 seconds. Normally, I won't bother to comment but after last week I'm wondering whether we are about to experience another outage?

There seem to have been two drops, the first at 12:39 for a few seconds, the second at 12:40 for two minutes, but not everyone seems to have been affected. Speeds are normal for me, but pings have gone high, an average of 125ms rather than 24ms.

My speeds are back to 7 mbps +. Pings are relatively poor. Browsing feels "sticky".

Given the speeds I live with, things feel normal.  IDNet are aware of the drop.

They are working on their peering today. This caused the earlier glitches and made things a bit sluggish for me. Simon suggested re-booting my router (I'd tried dropping PPP with no effect) and this cured the problem, but we are both confused as I re-connected on the same pipe and they have no congestion anywhere today.

Thanks, Rik. That probably explains the sluggishness. If things get worse I'll reboot. If not I'll sit it out. I just wish IDNet would post details of any work in progress on their status page. It's one of the very few things that lets them down or go for what somebody suggested last week:

I think my issues are unrelated hard to be sure, my connection goes off randomly sometimes twice in a matter of minutes, internet light goes out and sometimes goes red briefly then comes back on other times it just goes out and I loose sync. I believe the culprit to be a dodgy extension cable hopefully my issues will cease when I replace it. Would be so easy to blame the ISP wouldnt it?

Just had a loss of connection. My son's xbox360 suddenly went off line and I made the mistake of rebooting the router, which then wouldn't sync. Took about 5 minutes before the connection reappeared.
Anybody else had issues this evening?

I seem to have lost DNS a couple of times, but only briefly. No PPP drops.
Hard to be sure about pings/speed, I've got both cores on the iMac completely maxed out on other tasks, but it seems OK.

Same here. It's happened every evening this week. I'm not a gamer, so it's more an irritation than anything else - thus far anyway...

Not sure it should bother gamers- the router should have recent DNS entries cached. I only notice it if I go to a new site- this one (and others I've visited frequently/recently) continues to work fine.

I must admit I hadn't previously thought about it too much, but looking back, what I have been seeing when it happens is timeouts on a refresh.

I lost a lot of (but not all  ) connectivity about 11:15 this morning for a few minutes, PPP was fine and nothing in the router log.

Was it the same router that caused or was part cause to the outage of last week? I ask because I believe I read on here or over at Idnetters that whilst the outage fault was identified, it was not known why it had happened.
I had then mentioned on my Pings thread that I wondered if the ongoing latency problem was due to hardware still having an "intermittent" type fault and the "balancing" problem was symptomatic of that.
