Our connection went down for 20 minutes at 7:45pm. I think I am getting the MAC key from IDNet, they don't seem to get things sorted out. We have been suffering from disruptive connection for the past few months now, even though we are almost next door to the local exchange and have a good landline.
As I said in previous messages both here and on IDNetters, it is not good for IDNet only to rely on BT infrastructure.
BTW.: Can anybody recommend a good and cheap DSL-modem-router with 4 ethernet ports? The one I am using now doesn't have a DHCP-server capable of serving static LAN addresses to local PCs, I need this feature, along with a port-forwarding feature. I was trying to use 192.168.x.x addresses with a 255.255.0.0 network mask, the router's DHCP just ignores this setting altogether.

Try 8 hours. But it's not an IDNet problem here.

What's downtime?

Downtime=BT
Really, I don't understand why IDNet can't choose a more reliable backbone provider, or at least offer some more reliable business-quality connections like lower-contented SDSL or a LLU-based product.

SDSL is available ( Link),but I think it depends whether your exchange (and your wallet) will support it.
As for LLU... that would mean (afaik) IDNet putting their own kit into all the exchanges and their own backhaul, expensive.
Not sure about other backbone providers, but Enta do that and, judging by some comments in the forum, it has its own downsides

A shoe lace.
seriously;
BT should have a great advantage over most ISP's but sadly they rank very low.
