My mates thinking of joining...

[link to this post]

Hey all,

My mate is thinking of joining IDNet since his exchange has no LLU operators and he lives very close so should get decent speeds with a good none LLU ISP.

The only thing that is putting him off joining IDNet is the 5gb allowence, he plays alot of Xbox Live and uses his computer for mainly facebook and youtube but other than that does no downloading.

He uses his coputer daily for the above,

What are the chances of him breaking the 5gb usage and what would the punishment be for doing so?

Thanks, Sam

Get him to install NetMeter or tbbmeter so he can get some idea of his actual usage for a few days.

£1/GB for any extra usage over the included allowance, that's all.

If he joins, he can monitor his usage on the accounts page or set up an RSS feed to keep himself informed.

Edit- just seen the XBox reference... neither of the above will monitor that, but gaming doesn't usually take a large amount of bandwidth. Someone else might be able to give some ideas, I don't do gaming crazy

5gb allowance wouldn't be enough if he downloads the game demos as some of them can be over 1gigabyte in size on xbox live.

Your mate should go for it!

If he exceeds the 5Mb limit then it is £1.00 per Gb thereafter. If that does not suit his financial circumstances then other personal decisions will have to be made.

5gb isn't enough (wish idnet push it to 10gb and should be free usage overnight)

If Idnet didn't have to pay BT so much they would probably be muchmore generous with their allowances, but every business has to cover its costs. It's time BT was forced to lower their costs to providers and that would stimulate the take up of broadband.
