Are uploads throttled or similar on IDNet?

[link to this post]

I see that downloads are unthrottled/unrestricted (within given quota - fair enough). As DNet offers "unlimited" uploads, are the uploads throttled in any way?
Can I seed flat out on a torrent for instance if I so wished?

Thanks.

If BT will let you, yes.

They're not throttled or restricted outside the quota either- you just pay for the extra you use.

Okay, so when IDNET states "We guarantee no throttling, no traffic shaping, no port blocking, and no contention on our network. " that carrys the caveat that it may come restricted by BT Wholesale anyway, but they wont add any extra.

In the real world, I simply want to know that peers can reliably connect to me if I am seeding. Now that you state that BT "may" restrict that (regardless of the ISP reselling their broadband) I can make a decision.
Thanks.

IDNet don't count uploads towards the cap but i am sure if someone took the [censored] by leaving a torrent seeding at full whack for hours on end they would rightly do something about it.

They probably would, that's not what Im on about - start your own thread if you wanna discuss caps. Upload speeds are not the same as download speeds Jack - that's why its called asynchronous so your fear of "full whack" uploads is nothing to worry about, rest easy smile

Back on subject - Im simply clarifying an offline discussion that BT will throttle regardless of the ISP reseller. IDNet make a big deal about not shaping so I ask under their forum here. And Rik answered like he answers just about every post well, they are lucky to have him helping.

Gotta love you other IDNet fanboys though...loyal to the end and quite right!!!

It's not that BT throttles, but rather they don't guarantee upload speeds, which is why the BT speed test doesn't actually check upload speeds. We have seen problems recently where people have fully loaded their upload, resulting in a strangulation of d/s speeds as no ACKs could be sent, or only sent slowly. It's a case of juggling to get the best results for you.

I've been a IDNet customer for 4 years and can honestly say they are a great ISP, I wear my fanboy badge with pride. grin

Having said that I do keep an eye on other ISP's as can be seen below. wink

When I read your post i get the impression you are essentially talking about being a host, albeit through the mechanism of a torrent "seed".
Idnet (and others) don't count your Upload Usage, nor do they traffic shape, but I wouldn't neccessarily take it for granted (unless you clarified it with them) that you could constantly "host", albeit in the form of a torrent seed.
