ADSL grinds to a halt . . . . . .

[link to this post]

Is anybody else experiencing slow download speeds? Mine has slowed to almost the speed of dial-up.

For the last 5 months I've had good speeds and then the wheels came off. It seems that IDNet won't address the issue based upon the history of information I've sent them. I've spoken with CS at IDNet but all they want to tell me is what the line supports now.

I used Iplayer this morning and it seemed to be as fast as normal.

No problems here on either Max or WBC. Can you do a BT speed test and cut'n'paste the results?

Here are some stats:

ADSL Max
DSL connection rate: 160 kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 256 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 135 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 77 kbps

Fixed Rate
17.08.09-10.03 : 376kilo bits per second (Kbps)

Frankly, I fed up with IDNet not fighting my cause with Openreach. When I received a response that suggests because Bt won't do anything neither will we, I think its time to find another ISP who'll give me support. A business is only as good as its customer service.

I'm off to another ISP so it's too late to help me. Others beware.

What was your previous sync speed? That test shows a correct profile and throughput, so when did things change, have you tried using the test socket if you have one?

Things changed about 3 or 4 weeks ago. I don't have any test results from BT for before 3 or 4 weeks ago but I have a history of results from speedtest.net eg Download 1.24Mbs and Upload .36Mbs in June compared to 0.13Mbs and 0.34Mbs

What attenuation and noise margin is the router reporting? I assume you're on Max, have you previously been on a fixed speed service?

With that attenuation, you're never going to get great speeds and, on Max, if there is any noise around, internal or external, you are going to get instability. A fixed-rate 512k product might perform better for you. Have you done all the usual stuff, like disconnecting the ring wire, checking your filters etc?
