I subscribed to IDNet on the basis of their promise that the speed would not be throttled or limited in any way. I concede it has been a reliable service so far (this is my second month), and the speed is consisent over peak and off-peak times. However, I am disappointed that the service provides only half the throughput of BT's Option 3 Broadband during offpeak hours, and also half the throughput of O2's Access package regardless of the time of day. To support this, I should say that I was with BT for years, and then moved to O2 about a year ago, and both connections provided similar speeds at 4.5Mb/s, whereas IDNet provides 2.1Mb/s.
If I am to assume that the line speed is not synthetically manipulated, then the only conclusion that I can draw is that IDNet does not subscribe to a large enough connection between my local exchange and their network.
This makes a seemingly acceptable price of £35/month in my opinion quite poor value for money. With IDNet's one month rolling contract, I can of course change my supplier, but I would have preferred to have had this information so that I could have made an informed decision before I joined. For this reason, I am sharing my experience with others here.
