That message is appearing rather frequently this afternoon on various websites. Do we have a problem, Houston?

2010-09-03 16:51: We will be performing network maintenance on Sunday 5th Spetember between 9am and 3pm. The work should not disrupt broadband connections but some brief periods of routing inconsistencies may occur as external links are migrated onto new core routers The work ran on a bit, bit it seems OK now.

They worked for me just before I saw your edit
The occasional route/site still seems to be playing up, but the system seems to be getting itself sorted out.

Hi
For me problems started around 3pm. I could not access many sites I needed this pm, including hotmail. ebay and my work intranet.
The problem above still remains for me. I have also tried the links posted in this thread without success. I've currently resorted to my Vodafone dongle.
I don't know if I'm alone in this?, but I hope the issues are sorted without delay.
|
|
|
I can't check your work intranet obviously, but the others are OK here.
It's been recommended over on IDNetters that if you've still got problems to try flushing the DNS cache and if that fails, reboot the router.
(ipconfig /flushdns from a command prompt I think, but I run a Mac not a PC )

Hi
Thanks Bill I'd done both those already, including leaving the router switched off for an hour and flushing the DNS on both my laptop and desktop but to no avail. I've just re-booted again, but the issues above still remain.
I don't know if the problems are localised?. I'm in Belper, South East Derbyshire.

I think you might be best asking that over on the main IDNet support forum:
http://www.idnetters.co.uk/forums/index.php
They've got closer access to IDNet and what's going on than I have.
I think you'll have to register to post a query, but it's free

Hmm
I'm not having much luck with IDNet today! I can't even get to IDNetters with my Vodafone dongle, the site appears to be down?! ("the requested service is unavailable")

I;ve left a message for someone from there to come over here...

Netters is up, and we've had few reports of problems accessing it today. I would suggest you flush your dNS cache (Start > Run > CMD > ipconfig /flushdns in Windows). If that does work, try re-booting the router. If you're still not having any luck, then ping the forum and see if it resolves (it should be 212.69.36.28).
If that's not happening, try using OpenDNS.

Still no luck unfortunately
I'll look at this openDNS
Cheers

Ive followed all advice here and on IDNetters. (DNS flushed and router rebooted x 2.) The issue continues. This problem is really hitting me. Key sites such as Amazon and eBay are unreachable or do not display properly. I am unable to place an important online order and pay a bill. I depend heavily on the Internet. Thats why I pay £35 per month. The issue is said to be clear so Im feeling quite jittery. Is anybody else still experiencing problems?
EDIT: At least one other user was having problems circa 7.45 pm

Can access www.aemet.es sometimes, Amazon UK works but not my bank, Barclays and several other sites at this moment, 20.15.

The link you posted worked for me. I also accessed Amazon and eBay. I tried Barclays and failed. I can't make a payment via WorldPay. Secure sites in general are problematic.
EDIT: Quite a few people over at NETTERS are reporting ongoing problems so it lloks like a long night for IDNet staff.

I'd be a lot less concerned if somebody from IDNet were to get online and let users know whether there is still work onlgoing/acknowlegded problem. People accept there are short-term problems from time to time when they're kept informed but it's a few hours now since IDNet declared that all was well. I need to work online tomorrow and throughout the week. I'd hate to leave IDNet but....

Probably more likely to be a night of no internet for those IDNet customers effected by the looks of it. I am one such unhappy customer.
Like the chap on his Vodafone dongle I cannot reach any IDNet site via my o2 phone browswer, everything else loads up fine.

The problem is getting more regular for me too. Done the flushdns and router reboot with no effect, although hitting F5 seems to have the desired affect most times. No problem accessing idnetters forum.

There are still some routing anomalies after the work today that we're working at resolving. Apologies for the disruption.
