New router for IDNet upgrade

Help! After two years of deliberation, I want to upgrade to the faster 20 mbps service. I need a new router and plan to buy it via IDNet. Looking at their site, I see three Netgear models available, all at the same price:

Netgear DGN1000
5-products-in-1: modem, router, firewall, 4-port switch & 802.11n 150 Mbps wireless access point with encryption & Live Parental Controls.
£61.10 including VAT

Netgear WNR1000
PPPoE router, firewall, 4-port switch & 802.11n 150 Mbps wireless access point with encryption & Parental Controls.
£61.10 including VAT


Netgear DG834G
5-products-in-1: modem, router, double firewall, 4-port switch & 802.11G 54 Mbps wireless access point with encryption & VPN support
£61.10 including VAT

I want the best possible router but which do I opt for?

I can't recommend between those, but is the Speedtouch dying?

You can ignore the WNR1000, it's for FTTC and needs a separate modem.

As for the other two, depends whether you're more interested in parental controls or VPN. Personally I'd prefer the DGN1000 as I'm not interested in either but it's got wireless 'n'.

No. It's a great router for ADSL vanilla. However, when my exchange was upgraded two years ago, I was all set to go for the faster speed. A number of people reported issues with the Speedtouch. I contacted IDNet and was advised that a new router would be a good idea. I've been putting the move off ever since.

I'm not interested in VPN either so I'll probably opt for the Netgear DGN1000. Is it a newer model?

I think so, but tbh I'm not a great fan of Netgear so don't take my word for it!

I would go for one of these http://www.cclonline.com/product-info.asp?product_id... I have the previous varient and works like a champ.. and it does VPN also

We purchased a Netgear DG834 modem/router from IDNet a while ago. However, I wouldn't recommend this one, not as reliable as it should be, especially for the DHCP functionality for the LAN or keeping stable connections on poor quality lines. There are probably better routers available from places like CCLOnline or eBuyer.
