Just received a Huwei modem as O2 couldn't move our home broadband with us to a new place fast enough. As much as this was appreciated, they didn't tell us there is no support for Linux though it works on the Mac. No reason given why...
But it seems it may be possible still:
When I connect the modem via USB it is recognised in the network centre as a 3G modem. But when I try to configure it it asks for a 4 digit PIN which was not given to us at all. And it isn't the root passwortd...
I also found another installation guide (3 related) which involved copying a device file and swallowing a tarball http://kerry-linux.ie/broadband/three-datamodem.pdf
But it seems Mandriva 2010 already offers what the above guide want to do manually. Couldn't try if the dialling really works however.
But in general: is there any more or less similar procedure for the O2 network and the Huwei modem? What does the PIN mean?
Maybe someone has already managed to get it working. Any help would be much appreciated.
