Re: Considering the dark side - Distro comparison

In reply to a post by AEP:
Linux is an Operating System - or, rather, a family of Operating Systems (although some keep trying to make us call it GNU/Linux). The Linux kernel is a kernel.
In reference to www.gnu.org/:
The combination of GNU and Linux is the GNU/Linux operating system, now used by millions and sometimes incorrectly called simply “Linux”.

...and I don't suppose the GNU organization are biased in any way. Despite Stallman's efforts, the Operating System is called just "Linux".

Cf. SuSE Linux, Mardriva Linux, et al.

No surprise as the two or three same members follow each other round the forum. Can't afford a room?

He does. I'm always surprised by claimed Linux experts who don't know the first thing.

I'm with Linus rather than Stallman on this one. He owns the trademark.

I've never claimed to be a Linux expert; I'm just a user of it since the 0.9 kernel. Now The Linux Foundation - they're experts. The people who produce Slackware Linux (the first Linux distribution) - again, they're experts. I'm happy to take their word for what Linux is.
