Interesting graphic,

Have you one for KDE versus Gnome?

I've abandoned KDE because of the akonadi/nepomuk fiasco.

Have you seen (or tried) the new Gnome interface?

IMHO, it's a dogs dinner! Completely useless. I'm back to using KDE now, although I do have XFCE installed to try at some point... smile

You're in good company. I don't bother with a DE any more, I just stick to a tiling WM.

No I haven't. I expect Debian will roll it out eventually. It's not the UI of KDE annoying me it is the encroaching of akonadi and nepomuk. Pity because I liked Korganizer and Kmail in particular.

I have launched xfce but I don't think highly of it. That's because I'm too set in my ways, though, too comfortable with Gnome.

Like you, I can't stand the new Gnome interface. It seems as if the open source developers are trying to outdo Apple. First Firefox and now this abortion. What is it with this form over fuction rubbish.

But you don't have to use the new interface. Just plump for the classic interface when you log on.

That doesn't even make any sense tbh. Would you care to explain what links those 3 together in detail?

If only that were the case. The classic interface has virtually none of the features of gnome panel.

Not really. If you don't get it that's your problem, not mine.

I'm sure everyone would be very interested to know how you got from gnome shell to firefox to Apple tbh.

You have mistaken me for someone who gives a damn what you are interested in. It's an easy mistake to make.

I've heard of that Techworld. IIRC, it was the punchline to a really bad joke.

On reflection, I've switched back to XFCE. It just works in the way you would expect it to, and it's so much faster than the more bloated desktop managers.

I don't get wobbly windows, but I think I can probably live without that. Finally I can actually get some work done without trying to figure out how the interface works.

'Wobbly windows' is a compiz feature that was integrated into ubuntu. Compiz can easily be installed on xfce, but frankly it's just bloat. Xfce has its own compositor that is plenty good enough, although in my experience they all cause video tearing.

Thank you for the fascinating information. Unfortunately it is of no interest to me as I don't use Ubuntu.

'So', as in why does it matter that a) you don't use ubuntu and b) it is of no interest to you?
