Mail update

There is an update for Mail that fixes the crashing after the OSX 10.5.6 update.

Doesn't appear to be on SU yet.

Shows someone isn't testing stuff

Err... what crashing?

It will only appear on SU if your computer needs it. ie if the 10.5.6 update did not update Mail properly.

If it is not on SU then you don't need it.

"If Mail Update 1.0 does not appear, you do not need to install it."

Apparently there were some cases.

Wonder if it's anything to do with Mail suddenly quitting for no obvious reason... I've sent so many automated reports about that to Apple that I'm probably on their spam filter list

Don't think it's happened since the update but not sure... must pay more attention.

I think Mail is too flakey. I run it alongside Thunderbird so I can see if it catches up.

It can be a bit flakey, but it does it's job... and I've got used to it .

As far as I'm concerned its big plus is that that's all it does- it's not overburdened with bells and whistles!

That's not a dig at Thunderbird btw, I haven't tried that. Or Opera Mail...

It would be nice if it didn't disconnect from some of my POP accounts. This could be due to Eclipse's service, although they do work as designed in Thunderbird.

Never seen that... though occasionally it "forgets" a password for one of the accounts on startup

This something that constantly happens. Except that it doesn't actually forget, but rather forgets that it knows. Try just cancelling the message next time it appears. All should still work OK.

Argh - that wee password problem - Alas I remember it all too well Normally it's my Virgin ID but very very occasionally Gmail.

Before I went to 10.5.6 I had the occasional unexpected quit of Mail - but they really were few and far between - don't think I've had any since . Software update tonight only gave me the Aperture / RAW etc one.

Mail used to quit on me at least twice a week... though the iMac is on 24/7 and it never happened on the Macbook.

Might be worth trying Thunderbird - assuming thats stable on Mac...

My usual browser is Opera, so if I do switch I'll go for that one first... might give it a try on just one account after the holiday period.

Hmmm - not had any recent quits from Mail - my problem is an NTL one - their email seems rather flaky at times .

II'll get stuff in and hit reply instantly and the reply just will not go through NTL - eventually Mail asks me if I want it to go from Gmail and it will go that way - most odd .

As for NTL's webmail revamp - don't start me - can only use it with Safari
