Airport Express #2

[link to this post]

Happy Christmas everyone!

(Santa brought me an iPhone - I'm most pleased )

I have an old iMac G5 and I'd like to be able to play music from it through the speakers in my living living room. It seems that Airport Express is the thing to use for this. Right..? Assuming I'm on the right track so far, what do I need to do this?

My iMac, wireless router, and stereo are all in different rooms, currently linked by Ethernet.

I'm assuming that you can't play music from your iMac through your HiFi at the moment. All you need is Airport Express and a standard jack cable for your stereo. Plug the Airport Express in, connect the cable from the AE to your HiFi, set it up and off you go. You can download a free app called Remote from Apple onto your iPhone which will allow you to use it as a remote for your iTunes library.

Thanks

So how does the music get from the iMac to the AE? Via ethernet to my router, and then to the AE via wifi?

That's how mine is set up- it was a lot easier than I expected

I've heard one or two reports that the AE can sometimes be picky about which wireless routers it will work with, what have you got?

The router is a BeBox, the wireless point is a Linksys WAP54G.

I think I have an Apple AEBS somewhere.. I could use that if it gets fussy...

The audio connector is both analogue and digital so if you're HiFi can take optical (toslink) line-in use that for the best sound.

PS get Apple Remote from the app store to control iTunes from the iPhone
