Skype & video

[link to this post]

We can't get the iSight camera (on the Intel iMac) working with a relative in the US while on a Skype connection. He, likewise, can't see us with his kit. He has Windows stuff.

We can text chat and do voice chat no problem.

Can anyone help? Any advice? I am stumped

Under Preferences in Skype, have you enabled "Built in iSight"?

Yes. Just checked - it's selected in the drop-down menu thingy.

Edit: Also have checked ...

... Enable Skype Video

... When I am in a call: Start my video automatically

... Automatically receive video from: People in my Contact List.

... Show that I have video to: People in my Contact List.

Note that your message says twice that they can't see you. Can you see them?

It's my experience when dealing with Windows users over Skype that *they* have to do something to get video to work. I don't recall having any problems with the config at my end.

My settings exactly and I can chat to friends in Saudi Arabia. Could be an issue at the other end as I find that I can't connect to some other countries.

To my utter amazement, when we re-tried our Skype connection, it all worked.

He HAD been able to see us first time around, but we had not been able to see him. Second time around, it was a two-way video chat just like on iChat.

What did he do to (apparently) make it work from his end? He'd re-booted, so he said. Maybe that did the trick or maybe there are other forces at work.

I really couldn't see what else there was that we could do from our end.

Thanks for the help. But be sure I'll be back if problems arise again.
