Seems to be 10.5 (Leopard) only. There's another reason I'm happy I downgraded back to Tiger

The work-round on Leopard seems simple enough. Just use the RCDefaultApp prefs pane and divert the relevant URLs. I already had 'feed' set to use Mail. I set the 'feeds' and 'feedsearch' urls to <disable>.
