how did he do that?

Watched Terry Pratchett programme last night about his descent into Alzheimers. Sad really, but an impressive set up - nearly surrounded by six BIG monitors in a 3*2 crescent layout (only 'cos he couldn't get eight in the space, he says!) I'm sure it was a Mac - but how did he DO that?

You can get four dual-output graphics cards into a Mac Pro. That would mean you could drive 8 monitors from one Mac Pro. Each one can be up to 30" cinema display, as the DVI outputs are dual link.

It's time someone brought out borderless monitors... and it's a pity it won't handle 9, a 3x3 matrix would maintain the aspect ratio for movies.

Even if it wouldn't do much to maintain my bank account frown

Actually, a 3 x 2 array of "widescreen" monitors most closely fits Cinemascope aspect ratio (2.35 : 1). Eg 30" monitors in that arrangement give 7680 x 3200 = 2.4 : 1

At one time Dell were going to make one, haven't seen it though. LG make small panels with 1mm bezels for mobile devices. You can get near borderless LCDs made up easily enough, some of the larger video walls that don't use masked rear projection have them. Think lots and lots of money, leak from the backlight is a problem apparently.

I could easily lust after such a setup if I thought about it.
