iPhone/OS X problem

[link to this post]

The other day I reinstalled OS X on my MacBook and I've noticed that I cannot access, add or remove songs from my iPhone using iTunes. Screenshot.

I can still use my iPhone with full functionality, just not through iTunes on my Mac.

Is there any way to get my iPhone and MacBook to become friends again without reformatting the iPhone? Maybe there's a way to 'authorise' it?

Sounds like a quick trip to a genius is in order.

Out of interest why did you reinstall the OS?

This is only marginally relevant, but when I set up my Apple TV it gave me an "identification number" that I had to put into iTunes to pair them up.

I'd assume there's something similar for the iPhone, otherwise any iTunes within range of your iPhone could mess with it's library...?

They are greyed out, try setting iTunes to manually manage your iPod. That should fix it.

Sadly not. I get a delightful message informing me that "The iPhone "Matt Newman's iPhone" is synced with another iTunes library. Do you want to erase this iPhone and sync with this iTunes library?"

I had this problem a while back on a PC. Tried everything, authorising, restoring etc. Ended up having to erase and start again frown
