Ok, I bought a MacBook then I got another one about a month later. They both refuse to go to sleep and all they have installed is Office 2008. I've set the sleep setting to 1 minute but all that happens is the screen goes off and the light on the bottom of the laptop comes on. What I want to know is surely this must be a widespread problem as how is it possible that two MacBooks have exactly the same fault? What could be wrong with them? Seems really weird.
Both running 10.5.6 and power cord connected.
Thanks for any help,
Kieran.

If you are used to 'doze, the speed of wake/sleep ops on Macs can be a tad disconcerting.

It can't be asleep the HDD is still making noise. Plus when I close the lid or select "Sleep" from the OS menu it switches off with the light at the front pulsating which means its sleeping. I think I'll take them both into the Apple Store as I am not impressed with them not being able to do this most basic function.
Cheers,
Kieran.

I just moved the slider to 1 min which automatically moves the display time-out to the same. I've moved it there so I can test this problem.

So the screen is sleeping, does it wake when you touch the trackpad or key.

Yes - instantly. The monitor is just sleeping not the actual machine. There is something wrong with its ability to automatically go into Sleep. Nothing connected to machine. As I say I've got another identical MacBook and that doesn't go to sleep either!
