Hoping someone can help, i run a mac network using 200Mbps powerline so i can stream video from my imac to my appletv, all has been well since just before christmas, till this morning went onto the imac no internet, checked network settings ip address 169.254.83.79, subnet mask 255.255.0.0. these are usualy 192,.168.X.X subnet 255.255.255.0, have checked all cables straight out the back of the router and they are working, tried manually setting ip address but when i check diagnostics i get bottom 3 lights red isp failed, internet failed and server failed. Have tried powerline in all upstairs and downstairs sockets all same result, seems only the appletv can get a correct ip from the powerline adapters. Everything works on wireless but even though all but one computer is wireless 802.11n i still get judering on the sound or jerky video with wireless which was the reason for going powerline. Any help would be much appreciated .

Are all the powerline adapters ok? and are they plugged in properly (I've had one lift slightly in the socket and it was enough to stop it working).

Yep have tried that even tried all powerlines plugged into the wall as one was plugged into a gang socket, has been from the start but tried removing it from the gang socket in case it was that, but still no go.

Try restarting the router. The Mac is not getting an assigned address.

Try a new location on the Macs network prefs.

Is the router still set to use DNS. I was having trouble and when I checked despite having 'get DNS from ISP' ticked; it was set at 0.0.0.0

Sorry everyone but have just found out the reason it wasn't working is because instead of the having two ring mains one for each floor of the house it's split between back and front, so the macs at the front of the house were on a different circuit to the router at the back of the house, the worrying thing is why has it worked almost faultlessly for nearly 4 months, have moved the router and now all are working fine.

Have not used these myself, but as both circuits should normally be on the same phase I would have expected them to work.

well that's what i thought i thought this was the whole point of them, but as soon as i moved the router, to the same side of the house it worked, and using extension leads and plugging the poweline adapters into different sockets, i discovered they wouldn't work when the adapter connected to the router is on a different side to the adapters connected to the macs, maybe we have dodgy electric's.
