iPhone OS 3.0 .. first thoughts?

[link to this post]

Installed & working.. finally COPY & PASTE!

Been trying out the stereo bluetooth. I'm a little disappointed by the audio quality as it sounds like a highly compressed Internet radio stream. Spotlight works great, tested 'Find my iPhone', works as it should. Notifications enabled for a couple of apps but not fully tested it yet.

So far, so good.

Great so far, they could have only added copy n paste and I would have been happy.

Copy n paste is easy and intuitive, they've done it really well in my opinion.

Voice memos is ok, though I don't think I really need it.

Search seems to work fine.

Would have liked it if you could share contacts via bluetooth, but MMS and email is enough for now, better than nothing.

Can't get MMS to work on Vodafone at the moment though (have a factory unlocked 3G iPhone), have to give them a call in the morning to make sure it is actually turned on. Just hope I don't get someone who clams up as soon as I mention an iPhone like the last couple of times wink

I've been running 3.0 betas for ages now. So the novelty has worn off somewhat.

I think come February (end of contract) I will see how the Palm Pre is doing, it seems better the iPhone in a few ways and the OS is just as nicely designed.

Palm Pre does look quite nice, but I don't see the point of a pull out physical qwerty keyboard, from the size of it, it may as well be an on screen one. I like the iPhone keypad, especially now you can have it landscape in most circumstances, I can type on it as quick as any phone now.

Haven't actually seen one in the flesh though, so it may feel ok, need to handle one to be sure though.

Well it has a multitouch UI like the iPhone and many things the iPhone doesn't. Multitasking seems to be implemented very well and synergy sounds good.

Obviously less apps, but personally I think there are way too many apps on the iPhone and a very bad interface for browsing them. Why Apple can't just use a web browser instead of iTunes I don't know.

I'm only interested in a few apps and Tomtom is one of these.

I expected an OLED screen and some more cutting edge stuff on the new iPhone. I don't think it is a worthy upgrade for the hassle you have to go through to get one.

I had the "activation error" thingy, but let it carry on and all seems to have installed fine.

I am finding the landscape keyboard switch a bit slow.

Also, C&P is a bit fiddly (can't get the double-tap to work, but hold and select is fine).

Also, the apps were all over the shop and the drag-to-move very laggy.

If Shakespeare......had a blog it would be like this.

I have to agree about the sound quality, not very good. One issue I came up with is I download on a regular basis a number of podcasts that I listen to in the office. After the podcast is listened to it is replaced by the next issue of it and is deleted from the iTouch. OS 3.0 somehow resurrected a number of old podcasts, all dated 23 March of this year. I could not get them off the iTouch no matter how I changed the settings until I did the following, unsubscribed and deleted each podcast from iTunes, shut dow both iTunes and the Touch, then upon restarting both, re-subscribed to each podcast again. That seemed to resolve the issue. I am sure there a few more issues that will be coming up.
