Re: iPhone OS 3.0 .. first thoughts?

Is that on Jailbrake phones though? If Tethering is abused and the free ride is detrimental to both the service and the profit O2 makes operating the network it could potentially force them into a more stringent usage allowance that affects everyone. People should understand life is not a free ride, someone has to pay in the end.

Type MMS and send it to 1010.

That's only for O2 isn't it? I'm on Vodafone.

Called them today and they say MMS is enabled, but I just can't get it to work, others over on the vodafone forums seem to have got it working though frown

Snappier generally, C & P at last, been using that on my Treos for years. Palm Pre - I'm never going back to that platform, clunky as hell with no style.

As for Bluetooth, I haven't checked the tech specs but I'm guessing the bandwidth cannot support "hifi" in stereo so therefore needs some nasty compression.

According to this Apple are using the Bluetooth Advanced Audio Distribution Profile or A2DP for short. This is capable of very high quality sound provided the files stored on the Bluetooth device are in .aiff, 16bit .wav or Apple lossless format. See here

I am thinking of buying an iPod Touch in order to use this feature, has anyone tried it on the iPhone or iPod Touch yet?

Doesn't seem like a major upgrade, but then it was free smile

Cut and paste will be useful. The horizontal keyboard might be nice too, but I've not had much cause to use it.

It's measurably faster here, at least in one application:

When checking Mail, I used to see frequent pauses when switching accounts. And swiping right to bring up the delete button for a mail item would often not register as a swipe, but would be seen as a tap instead, and open the mail. I put this down to lag in the interface. Now I see no such delays, Mail works very smoothly.

I very rarely felt the need for copy/paste before, so my problem now will be to remember that it's available on the odd occasion when I might use it. Landscape keyboard is OK, but leaves very little space to see what you're editing.

Push will be handy for Chat or Skype, I guess.

I really want to see that TomTom app.

Bluetooth was never designed for high quality stereo audio. It is a low bandwidth wireless protocol.

Wires are a pain, but there has to be a better protocol to use.

I'm using MobileMe for OTA contacts/calendar and push mail. Apple seems to have push right, as soon as a message appears (and sometimes before!) in my inbox, it's on my iPhone. With iPhone OS 2, push didn't seem to work as good.

At the moment, I'm waiting for a BeeJive IM update that supports push, this is where the iPhone and push will come into it's own.

I'm also looking forward to the TomTom application too.
