I should be taking receipt of a brand new Macbook paid for by my employers This will be my first Mac wish me luck
Why wish you any more luck? Getting a free mac is luck enough, the rest will be a breeze.

I'm an I.T. techy at a school, and I also do their website for them - I said I need one to do the website, my boss agreed and the order was put through

That sorta fits into the web design area, but even so. A school is the least likely place to see one which is a shame.
They seemed to buy overpriced PCs from RM, but that may have changed.
Generally we purchase PC's from RM, however, I'm currently setting up 2 20" iMacs and a Mac Book Pro for a media studies class They finally listened to me that to run some the courses, they would be better suited for Macs
Indeed, a few Macs with Final Cut, Logic and Aperture would be good experience.

Nooooooooooo it's not due now untill the 10th July - Other equipment was ordered along with it that is taking time to be prepared but according to the tracking site the Macbook is ready for dispatch but they wont untill the full order is together
Maybe I should phone them and moan that I want it now

One I wold like, on my PC I use Crimson Editor as a text editor for website dev. Unfortunately it's not available for Macs, what is out there as a good alternative?
IMHO, BBEdit is still the premiere Mac text editor for web development. I use it, with an add-on script from John Gruber for PHP syntax verification. Text Wrangler is its free brother. There are others, though. TextMate is considered the pinnacle by many, but I've never go around to trying it in anger. Coda seems to be gaining some traction for web project workflows, though I'm not personally impressed.
There is also Xcode, of course - Apple's free development environment for a wide variety of languages, and they also provide Dashcode, which supports a HTML/Javascript/CSS development environment.
