Safari

I'm not sure if these are connected: Since the latest update to Safari 4.0.2 I have been getting very strange (slow) results from the TB Speedtest, whilst others have been as expected.

I have also had quite a few Safari crashes. A quick poke around found this Java update which I have installed and a quick run on the TB Speedtest gave me normal results. It's too soon to conclude that this has been causing the crashes, but I'll post the results. The Java update doesn't seem to appear in Apple software update notifications by the way.

Can't say I'm surprised, and can't say I'm bothered!

I very rarely visit Java-dependent sites - where are they all? On the rare occasion that I want to check my connection speed I use broadbandmax, which doesn't depend on Java, and is a consistently better match to my real life download speeds than the local facility.

Java on Mac OS is notoriously flaky, and almost always out of date. Apple seem to have a perverse desire to deter its use.

I have now installed this update on both machines and it certainly seems to have given Safari a good kick up the proverbial!
