Mail Messages as TIFF Images

Normally when I receive an email I can cut/copy/paste etc bits of the incoming message to use in my reply.

BUT some users send me emails which are called "image.tiff" and these cannot be used for a reply by chopping into pieces.

Only a minor inconvenience, but why do people do this?

And is there an easy way around this?
