Magic Mouse - Thoughts?

[link to this post]

I bought a magic mouse for my iMac yesterday and so far so good.

The scrolling up and down is so much nicer and the fact there is no wire is a bonus too. Style wise it looks good too but will take a bit of getting used to since the shape is so much different to the original.

What do you think?

Conor

There is absolutely no substitute for a genuine lack of preparation

In principle the best kit I've had. Triffic ergonomic design.

Has an annoying tendency for its connection to go wonky causing tracking to go totally awry (swapped out my first one and the new one seems better).

I've had one for a while now and I think its the best mouse i've had. No real problems with it either.

I praised it as Apple's first decent mouse when it first came out, and it's still my mouse of choice. It fits my hand very well, and the fact that you can put your clicky / scrolly finger wherever you want to seems to reduce the RSI potential. Conventional scroll wheel mice force me to arch my hand more than is comfortable.

The only down side is the battery usage. It gets through Duracells a bit faster than I'd like. I've tried using some (old) rechargeables, but they only last an hour or three before pegging out. Maybe I need to try some new ones,

Got mine when they came out last year. [censored] amazing mouse. Using it with my imac and it really is a huge improvement on the old design.

you'll soon get used to the shape.

Enjoy.

They're ok, a bit too sensitive sometimes. Have installed MagicPrefs which allows you to fine tune a bit better and add more gestures.

The problem I get is that I'm used to hovering my fingers very close to the mouse surface, so I end up getting a lot of false hits/scrolling. Even with MPs I can't lower the sensitivity enough, my finger gets detected slightly above the surface, which causes no end of problems. The area that registers a scroll is too wide as well, but haven't found a way of reducing it.

I also hate having to lift off my index finger to right click as well, it doesn't register right clicks very well at all because of this.

Over all not a bad bit of kit, needs a lot more fine tuning though.

Lovely...

I was getting fed up with poking around the Mighty Mouse's scroll wheel with a thin piece of card to clean it and restore 'Up-Scrolling' which is the one that always seemed to go first.

Bought it an hour ago at the New York Apple Store along with MacBook (belated Xmas Pressie to myself.)

I'll probably get one this weekend, now being fed up using Sticky Stuff remover to get the Mighty Mouse scroll wheel to work. Funnily enough, it's always the down scrolling on mine that goes first!
