Difficult to really comment until we see what they announce.

Patience!

I could add nothing to the deluge of speculation that's been washing across the interwebs for weeks. Let's just wait and see. It's only 9 more days.

They need to release a product that appeals to all. An iPod is fairly competitively priced, Apple's computers aren't really. They need another popular device that isn't an iPod. Lots of iPhones around but the market share isn't that large.

So if they release a tablet computer which is pretty similar (in power and limitations/DRM) to an iPhone and costs £500 they've blown it.

It needs to be a very useful device for about £250 tops.

When did Apple ever worry about market share (since Jobs got back, at least). They worry about profit share.

I think if Apple does not release a tablet, when others have already announced a release it may be an opportunity missed. Now to see what the pricing will be. For those us that may be looking in a year or so, it may be a make or break for us.

I was responding to the suggestion that the iPhone's modest market share is in any way a disappointment to Apple. Why would it be, when they are laughing all the way to the bank?

The i-whatever-it-is *may* need to reach iPod levels of market domination if it is a media-centric device whose objective is to dominate in the various media format wars, but we don't even know if that's its role yet.

How can you set a target price for something whose functions you know nothing about? I don't have the foggiest idea what plans they have for it, and I might well not be the slightest bit interested in what it has to offer, regardless of its price.

I certainly agree that trying to predict a product price before even knowing what the product is or what it does is foolhardy in the extreme.

Isn't that what Sir Fred the Tread did when he committed RBS to take over ABN Amro? And look what happened to RBS.

No point in knowing the cost of everything if you know the value of nothing. laugh

Second guessing Apple does seem to be a popular game. I'm not sure why as I can't think of any other manufacturer that provokes quite so much speculation. The only thing I could predict is that, whatever the product, it's fairly unlikely that I will want one!

The only thing I can say to that is........... whatever the product, it's fairly unlikely that I will need one!

Still not sure whether I need a magic mouse but I sure as hell want one. laugh
