I wonder if anybody has any ideas about this? All my iTunes music files (the physical ones) are in a folder on a Lacie portable 500GB hard drive, having been on other drives over the years but now all consolidated onto this one. I've noticed that each time I've pointed iTunes to the latest drive that I want it to put the files on there has always been a discrepancy between how much music iTunes tells me I have and the size of the folder on the drive. Now this hasn't really bothered me much up until now but difference is getting larger.
I've just bought myself a Macbook Pro and so have been configuring iTunes to read the files from the Lacie drive and to put any new ones there. After iTunes had re-read the files it told me I had 239GB of songs (I know, I know), but, and this is where it starts to get odd, getting info on the Lacie drive tells me I have 305GB of files on it, whereas, when I went to back them up to another drive, the backup software (Silverkeeper) told me there was 284GB of files.The only folders that are on the drive are a folder called iTunes music, with the physical files in, and a new one which iTunes 9 put there called 'Automatically Add To iTunes' which is empty.
Does anybody have any idea about what's going on? Do I have files on the drive that haven't been imported into iTunes and, if that's the case, how do I find out which ones? I've already tried the script MFFNA but that reported that there were only about 8 files and only one of them proved to be actually missing. If nothing is actually missing why are iTunes, the drive and Silver keeper giving so very different readings?
I've had a look in the discussions on the Apple site and, although it seems to happen to quite a lot of people, nobody seems to have an answer so any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
