Re: When will Apple learn ?

Subjectively, it does. It's worth noting here that, historically (one might say traditionally), TFTs had matt screens not because it made the colours more accurate or resisted reflection as such, but because the older TFTs had poor contrast ratios and were simply not bright enough to stand up to having a glossy face. Basically, they were just plain bad compared to a CRT and a glossy screen would have made them all but impossible to use.

While the above is less of an issue now, the simple fact is that glossy screens have big advantages. For example, hard, glossy screens are easier to clean and less susceptible to damage of one sort and another than thin, soft matt ones. The latter is important with laptops because the most damage to laptop screens is caused by the screen being compressed against the keyboard. Moreover, I have twice seen laptop screens well and truly trashed by someone closing the lid with something caught inside (a pen and a power plug). They didn't need to force it. Just the point pressure on a sharp edge for a moment was enough to rip clean through the soft face. You'd need to use a lot more pressure to do the same sort of damage to a glossy screen. The same is true of matt desktop screens and, indeed TVs. It takes very little indeed to damage them.
