iPhone 4 being sold unlocked by Apple

[link to this post]

I just pre-ordered the 16gb black for delivery on 24 June and I did not have to select any network. Perhaps we are not going to have PAYG offered anymore.

My order is showing:
Rate Plan:
No Voice Plan
No Data Plan
No Text Plan

I'm guessing that the UK networks are no longer offering the iPhone on PAYG.

£499 ?

I can't justify handing out that much in one go for it, but i'll probably wait and get it on a contract, i already pay out £30 a month in a contract anyway, so it won't be as sore on the pocket lol

I was going to post about the iPhone 4, but you beat me - and by a few hours laugh
Your new iPhone. Direct from Apple and ready to use.

When you purchase your iPhone from the Apple Online Store, youll get it SIM-free. So you can sign up for service with the carrier of your choice and change your carrier at any time. Questions? Call our iPhone experts at 0800~048~0408.
Not ordered yet. I've just given CPW a call and they don't have any tariff info for PrePaid.

It may get PAYG after being jailbroken? smirk

Won't order just yet..

I'm still not clear if Guru James is telling us O2 will swap the SIM to remain on our current package or whether we have to choose an iPhone 4 tariff and say goodbye to unlimited data?

Guru James has not sent me any e-mails since last week. I'm still waiting for the promised microSIM to arrive.

Well if Guru James won't come to see us I went to see him - an O2 store in the city. The guy I spoke to seemed to know a lot more than James - he really knew the product, the technique to bypass image compression, streaming his EyeTV over 3G, tethering etc... and I was shocked to learn that all O2 staff are given a special APN which is not going via the proxy and does not alter the resolution of images! I failed to entice him to reveal it to me but he believes this will continue with iPhone Micro SIM but he couldn't say if the public method will be allowed. Anyway he did confirm that O2 will be doing a SIM swap for customers wanting to remain on the same contract (unlimited data, bundled MMS etc...)

£499 for that? I read somewhere that Orange were subsidising it a bit. Can't verify that at the moment since I'm in work, but iirc, they had it on pre-order for pretty reasonable prices.

I also pre ordered mine from Apple on Tuesday.

Networks will be offering them on PAYG, but will obviously mean you'd be locked to them for a period of time. I hear that 02 allow you to unlock after 3mths but you'll loose your free web and wifi. Orange are also offering it to pre order on PAYG, £19 cheaper than at the Apple store but you'll be locked to their network.
