Finder window problem

[link to this post]

How can I resize a Finder window? The problem is that on the iMac the Mrs uses somehow the default size of the first window when you open finder is taller than the display and the bottom of the window is covered by the dock. OK I thought, I'll put the dock on the left for a moment, grab the resize area on the bottom right of the window and resize it. Unfortunately it looks like the resize thing is off the bottom of the display too so I can't grab it. I can't move the window up as the top edge is already on the top edge of the display so how on earth can I get this window resized to something more sensible?

Thanks,
Steve

Shouldn't happen - something wrong with your screen settings - but the green button, top left, should size it to fit screen.

If you can see the top title bar of the window, click the green button at top left. That should "right-size" the window.

FYI, you can use the dock preferences to set it to auto-hide, so that it only pops up when you move the cursor to the screen edge it lives on. This gives you more visible screen area for your actual work, as you don't need to see the dock most of the time.

Use AppleScript. Open the AppleScript Editor and type in:

Text
1
23
45
tell application "Finder"
   activate   select Finder window 1
set bounds of Finder window 1 to {10,60,700,600}end tell

(Just the text, not the numbers in the left-hand column.) Now click the "Run" button and the window should resize.

Sorted thanks. Green button didn't work, that was one of the first things I had tried.
